My Top 5 Aussie-Made Hair Care Products of 2020

products for hair - luxuriously stylish

With the rise of COVID-19 and the decrease in imports, Aussies are looking for home-grown products to replace their favourites. I have always preferred trying to buy Australian made and owned brands, to support local businesses and get the best quality beauty products. I cannot deny the difference in quality between those made here as opposed to those imported from other countries.

Australia follows strict quality control and I find that we use the best home-grown ingredients in our hair care products, which incidentally gives the best results!

#1- Charlie and Evie Moisture Shampoo and Moisture Conditioner

Charlie and Evie is one of my favourite Australian owned hair care brands and for good reason! It is created by a mum of two, who has been in the hairdressing business for over 13 years! I can rest assured that these products have the knowledge and understanding of my haircare needs behind them, and their huge range of shampoos and conditioners work wonders on my hair.

I often find that my hair can get quite dry, being curly and chemically lightened, especially in summer when I spend a lot of time at the beach and y hair is exposed t the elements.

That is when I discovered the most popular duo for sale in the range, the moisture shampoo, and the conditioner. It targets the driest areas of your hair to ensure that every aspect is well covered. It locks in that much-needed moisture and the results are seen right after use!

All of their products are made with certified organic ingredients and are free of parabens, silicones, artificial colours, and sulphates. I can honestly see the difference in my hair after the first wash!

I can tell this brand was founded by love. A love of hair care and passion to bring the best out in everyone. The creator has worked tirelessly to make a range that she can be proud of and is 100% happy to recommend to any of her clients. That is how I know that I am giving my hair what it deserves.

There are also other shampoo and conditioner products in the range to target any number of issues that you could be having with your hair. This includes increasing hair volume, caring for coloured blonde hair, and even repairing damaged locks.

You can buy the shampoo and conditioner pairs as a bundle or separately and there is also a range of repairing products, such as hair masks and after-care bundles which can be added to your hair care routine.

The protein spray is definitely another one of my go-to favourite products for my weekly routine. If you want to test out a new and exciting brand then there is no other I would opt for than Charlie and Evie.

#2- Davore Curl Crème Definer

If you have curly hair like me then this product is for you! Fro their styling range, Davore Curl Crème Definer is made from natural ingredients, such as pure plant sunflower oil and native Australian plant extracts like Lilly Pilly which acts to keep my hair hydrated, eliminating frizz and results in smooth, tamed curls when I am feeling out of control.

It is important to keep curls hydrated as dryness can leave you with the dreaded frizz. One study on this phenomenon that I found particularly interesting is that by Experimental Mechanics in 2014 which outlines how hydration affects our curls in our hair. The basis of the results is that the dryer the hair, the more frizz you will have. That is backed by science!

The best way to apply the definer as I have found is to wet your hair and while it is still damp apply the crème. I let my hair dry naturally and I am always left with breathtaking curls! The best time to apply is after a shower in the morning so I have amazing, natural curls all day long.

The Davore range has conditioners, shampoos, treatments, and styling products that are made with Kakadu Plum. This is native to Australia and is a rich source of Vitamin C which will help your hair to revitalise your hair and reduce the effects of free-radicals, which is what causes damage from the sun.

The brand is Australian owned and all products are Australian made with ingredients we can find right here. It has no nasty chemicals and is eco-friendly, vegan, and plant-based.

#3- De Lorenzo Novafusion Colour Care Shampoo

De Lorenzo has been a cornerstone of Australian hair care for many years. It is a range that I find in most hair salons around the country and you can bring that quality home with you! For coloured hair, I always choose De Lorenzo Novafusion Colour Care Shampoo in Rosewood.

It works in two ways. If your hair is naturally coloured then it creates a colour wash, but if like mine your hair is coloured then it prevents fading and maintains colour to make it last! This pink shampoo creates pastel rosewood tones and also violet highlights to blonde hair.

It has no harsh chemicals, which can damage your hair more if applied frequently. A recent study has shown that chemicals used in hair colours and products can have adverse effects on your hair and cause more damage than they repair. De Lorenzo uses a range of Australian grown ingredients that are naturally sourced including Kakadu Plum, Rooibos, and Birch, all act to improve my hair condition and shine.

De Lorenzo has been a haircare staple in Aus for the past 30 years and continues to produce amazing products that I can not help but love! With certified natural, organic ingredients I feel like I am giving my hair the absolute best!

#4- Nak Ultimate Hair Treatment

Nak is devoted to keeping your hair in its best condition during the harsh Australian summers and bitter winters. I have found no better hair treatment to assist with the damage from the elements than Nak ultimate hair treatment.

It is from their Signature Range and the Ultimate Treatment – 60-second repair is infused with all-natural, vegan-friendly extracts from aloe vera, rice, and pear. These ingredients act to rebuild and strengthen my hair, and the results are practically instant!

After long summer days at the beach, with damage from the sun and surf, this hair treatment can not be beaten. It hydrates as well as nourishes the follicles and is best used after cleansing, and is applied by massaging into the hair, leaving for 60 seconds and rinsing out. I can assure you that it does work that fast!

Harsh sunlight is extremely bad for our hair, as well as our skin. But I find that many of us are unaware of how this can affect our hair. In the Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology, an article published in 2004 outlined the effects that UV rays can have on our hair and the results were startling. It not only changes our natural hair colour but also dries out and damages our hair.

This range by Nak is designed specifically to compliment the Australian way of life. I have found that national products can hone in on our needs and how the environment can damage hair with long periods of exposure.

I also like how Nak uses natural ingredients and botanicals which act to nourish, strengthen, and repair my hair. Not only does this hair treatment helps to repair my hair, but Nak also has a range of shampoos, conditioners, and styling products on offer that I use in combination to fix my hair especially during summer. They are all paraben and sulphate free and are vegan too!

Nak was founded in 2003 and has been providing Australians with quality hair products from their homegrown business based in Brisbane. This is just another bonus to buying from Nak and they are by far one of my favourite hair care brands on the market!

#5- Juuce Silver Blonde Shampoo

To eliminate brassy, yellow tones after bleaching my hair I find that Juuce Silver Blonde Shampoo works wonders. It is infused with six natural Australian botanicals, dandelion, aloe vera, Kakadu Plum, wattle seed, desert lime, and quandong. It is a vegan option, like the other products I have recommended, so you are sure to get a cruelty-free, natural, plant-based product.

This shampoo contains micro blue-violet colour pigments that penetrate deeper into the hair follicles and neutralise the brassy, yellow tones of my chemically lightened hair, for a more natural blonde colouring all over.

This is an Australian made and owned brand which is part of Hairjamm, a family-owned business that is also based out of Brisbane.

These five hair care products are my top picks for Aussie-made items that have helped my hair to no end! Whether they help to moisturise and rejuvenate damaged, dry hair or keep my hair shiny and lustrous, I can not surpass the high quality that I have found from these brands in particular.

Love & blessings
