Everyone’s skin is different and despite what we think, some products and ingredients shouldn’t be used on certain skin types. Skin is a big deal as it’s our body’s largest organ. Skimming over what we should be putting on our skin can be disastrous and lead to scarring, pigmentation, and dullness in the long run. Skin routines can be overwhelming and complicated sometimes – but we do recommend getting started with sheet masks as they are super easy and fun to use.
It’s always great to be able to understand what sheet masks are best for your skin type, so we’ve put together this list to help you out!
Oily skin is caused by the overproduction of sebum (which is natural oil produced from your skin, which helps it stay hydrated and healthy). The overproduction of oil can be caused by your hormones (thank you body), or it could be caused by your skin routine, over-exfoliation, the weather or seasons, your age, etc. You want to look for sheet masks and products that are “oil-free”, “non-comedogenic” and “oil-absorbing”.
Sheet masks for oily skin: clay or charcoal, hyaluronic acid.
Dry skin is very common and can be caused by a number of reasons including the environment and even your skincare routine. You can notice dry patches and flakes as a result. The use of frequent hot showers or harsh soaps, medicines, or products can dry out your skin, so be careful! To nourish the skin, look for things that are “moisturizing” or “hydrating” like shea butter and jojoba, oil-based products are great also! Ingredients like lactic acid, hyaluronic, or glycerin are amazing for dry skin as well.

Are you a little bit of everything? Oily t-zone AND dry patches in some places? Using harsh ingredients, can dry out your skin in certain areas and can create an overproduction of oil in other areas. Sometimes people with combination skin develop acne – which totally sucks, but it’s not the end of the world. Looking for ingredients that will balance out the skin’s pH levels like tea tree, honey, hyaluronic acid, salicylic acid, and benzoyl peroxide are great.
Sheet masks for combination skin: hyaluronic acid, mattifying, or ‘clarifying’ masks.
Does everything make your skin sensitive? There are times where our skin can be delicate and it reacts to just about anything! You will need to use gentle ingredients that won’t irritate or cause any unnecessary breakouts. Look for masks that are calming to the skin that include ingredients like aloe vera, calendula, chamomile extract, or cucumbers.

Feeling a little old and wrinkly? No, just kidding, but age is nothing to worry about, especially when you start to see wrinkles and fine lines. As your skin gets older the natural collagen in your skin breaks down and wears out, giving your skin less elasticity. Look for ingredients that promote cell production and boost the collagen in your skin, ingredients like retinoids, vitamin C and hydroxy acids.
Sheet masks for anti-aging: collagen boosting, ‘firming’ or anti-aging masks.
DULL OR PIGMENTED
After the crazy journey of skincare, as your skin gets older, you’re most likely left with dull or pigmented skin. This can be a result of sun damage, scarring, or poor skin routines. You need to look for things to brighten and hydrate the skin, in order to even out the tone. Look for ingredients like vitamin C, niacinamide, lemon, honey, or egg for brightening pigmentation. Make sure to wear sunscreen every day – despite whether you are in the sun or not.
